Thankful for our Linemen!

Thankful Tuesday!

I know it’s Wednesday, but the linemen were able to restore our power on Tuesday
and for that, I was extremely thankful.

I’ve been absent for the last week … we were camping for 10 days and the day after we returned home severe storms went through our area Friday night and Saturday morning.  It was the Saturday storm that knocked out our power for 72 hours.

We now hear that it was the worst storm in our area in the last 20 years.  So many homes damaged, trees down causing power grids that needed to be entirely rebuilt!!

Let me tell you, 72 hours is a long time without power, water or flushing toilets.  But we have so much to be thankful for.

  • the generator that we use when camping allowed us to alternate power to the refrigerator and freezer so our food did not spoil
  • we did not have trees down in our yard or on our house
  • there were no injuries
  • after the storms, the weather was fairly mild so we didn’t have to deal with extreme temperatures or humidity
  • our camper was still in the driveway, from our camping getaway, which gave us access to a gas stove to cook simple food and heat water for washing dishes
  • wonderful friends (that had power restored days before we did) who allowed us to take showers at their house and fill our container with water
  • and last, but certainly not least, so thankful for all of the lineman who have been working long, hard days to get power restored as soon as possible (many of them came from other areas of the state to help out)

And as I write this, there are still people in our area that do not have power and may have another 24 – 48 hours before it is restored!  We are fortunate in so many ways.

I will be posting stamping projects again soon, but wanted to take time out to let you know what was going on in my life and why I’ve been absent for a bit.

We take electricity for granted and are so dependent on it for technology, phones, computers, ipads, etc.  When it is down…some things in our lives come to a screeching halt.  Take time to enjoy the little things, like a toilet that flushes, a light switch that operates, etc.

Have a great Wednesday!
Deb
