Back to School for Maddie

Hey Girl !st day of School for Maddie

Tuesday was my granddaughter’s first day back to school.  The report from my daughter-in-law when she got the kids up, was that Maddie exclaimed “this is ridiculous – it’s still dark out”!  I don’t blame her – I don’t like to get up when it is still dark out either!

I sent a card to both of my grandchildren and included a little treat for them.  This is the card for Maddie; you will have to wait to see Jack’s card, because it is also the design I am doing for an upcoming swap and don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Card Recipe

Stamp Set – Hey, Girl
Cardstock – Perfect Plum, Rose Red, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White
Ink – Archival Basic Black, Rose Red, Soft Suede
Accessories – Aqua Painter, Washi Label and Word Window Punches, Ovals Collection Framelits, Big Shot, Lovely Lace Embossing Folder, Paper Snips Stampin’ Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive

You might be wondering where I used the Rose Red cardstock….I stamped the girl’s head on Rose Red and cut out the bow for her hair.  Then it was adhered to the card – paper piecing!  I also paper pieced the girl’s dress using Perfect Plum cardstock.  Her hair was colored in with the Aqua Painter and Soft Suede ink.  (My granddaughter is brown haired and loves purple so I incorporated those things into her card.)

Back to School treats for Jack & MaddieThe treat bags were filled with trail mix and I made quick tags using a retired stamp set – All in the Family.  I want to point out that the treat bags are a Stampin’ Up! item – I think they often get overlooked in the catalog.

These Cellophane Bags are 4″ X 6″ and you get a pack of 50 for only $4.50!  You can find these bags, along with other packaging materials like boxes, and both paper and muslin gift bags on page 151 of the Annual Catalog.

Vintage Leaves, a Mason Jar, and PPA 266

PPA 266

I saw these mason jar candle holders on Pinterest and wanted to try my hand at them.  The Pals Paper Arts color challenge were the exact colors I had in mind for this project!  Of course, you can make these jars for any holiday just using a different shaped stencil.

PPA 266

Here is my project recipe:

Stamp Set – Vintage Leaves, Truly Grateful
Cardstock – Delightul Dijon, Old Olive, Very Vanilla
Ink – CajunCraze, Delightful Dijon, Old Olive, Very Vanilla
Accessories – Leaflets Framelits,  Tags & Labels Framelits, Big Shot, Linen Thread, Stampin’ Dimensionals,  (non-Stampin’ Up! supplies: quart canning jar, chalk craft paint and paint brush)

For my jar, I used the Leaflets Framelits Dies to make the stencil.  I had some sheets of washi tape so my stencil stuck to the jar but you can apply any paper stencil with temporary adhesive, too.   The jar was painted with the chalk paint and then the stencil was removed and the decorations attached.

My jar is filled with popcorn but you can add dried beans, rice, etc.

I have had some interest in doing these at a class.  If you want to attend a class and make a jar like this, please leave a comment below and let me know if a weeknight or weekend class would work better for you.

Don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter and to receive my blog posts by email.

I am accepting RSVP’s for my September and October card classes.  Click on the Events tab above to see what I have lined up.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Stamping!
